AnandYatra (Journey of Happiness) is probably India's first self-help support group for single individuals who are above 45 years of age. It is based in Pune and was formed in March 2008 by Dr. Hemant Devasthali who retired as Principal of Ness Wadia College of Commerce (University of Pune) in 2010. He was motivated to form the group to alleviate his own feelings of loneliness following the death of his wife in a road accident. The primary objective of the group is to alleviate the feelings of loneliness and depression that often take over single individuals, sometimes leading to chronic depression. It is an emotional support group and should not be mistaken for a marriage bureau or a dating club.
